White LED Strip Lights range
Our white LED lights – also known as white LED tape, LED strips or LED ribbon – are our best selling and most popular products. They’re a flexible light source that can be installed almost anywhere.
Every metre of LED tape has at least 60 diodes (our high-power strips have more) – that’s plenty of LEDs to give a smooth and eye-catching effect to any illuminated surface.
All of InStyle’s white LED lights are supplied on 5m reels as standard. But we also offer a full cutting and preparation service, so we can pre-cut or solder your LED tape order to exactly the lengths your project needs. And if you’re working on a bathroom or an exterior project, we also offer a waterproof (IP67 certified) option of all our LED tapes.
White LED lights are ideal for domestic use, clubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, signage and many other applications. With five different brightness levels available, InStyle LED can supply what you need for all your lighting projects. You’ll find that our 5W or 10W per metre 12-volt LED lights are perfect for covings and feature lighting applications – while our 12W, 20W or 24W p.m. strips are great for working lights, general lighting and replacing fluorescent tubes.
To drive your strip lights, we’ll supply a suitable LED transformer (either 12v or 24v) that’s powerful enough for your installation. Like InStyle’s other products, all of our LED strips are commercial grade, which means they’re manufactured using premium components and diodes.
Can you supply waterproof LED light strips?
Waterproof LED light strips allow you to install in locations where resistance to water is required, for example kitchens, bathrooms etc. They can also be fitted externally, making them ideal for signage. InStyle can supply waterproof LED tapes to meet the needs of your project.
Any of our white LED tapes are available in either:
- standard (non waterproof) version,
- with an IP65-rated heatshrink coating,
- or as IP67 waterproof white LED light strips.
What lengths do white LED lights come in?
All of our white LED tape range is manufactured and supplied on 5m reels as standard. But you can choose how you want to purchase your LED strips from us – there’s a variety of ways you can order, to suit your needs.
- You can buy your LED light strips in 5m reels as standard, then cut and solder them to the lengths you require yourself (if you’re happy to undertake soldering).
- If you’d prefer to avoid soldering, then we can supply clip-on connectors to join your tape lengths. These connectors enable you to cut then extend your white LED lights to the lengths you require with no soldering required.
- Or why not simply tell us the lengths you require when you place your order – and InStyle LED will do all the cutting and soldering for you. (For simple orders, there’s no extra cost). InStyle will even add extra starter-leads, measured and cut to the length you want, and we can also solder link-cables into your white LED light strips, so you can install around corners or other obstacles.
Can I cut LED light strips myself?
Yes you can. All of our white LED strips have cut points clearly marked on them. Simply use a pair of household scissors to cut to the length you require, along the lines indicated by small scissor symbols. Be sure the LED strip are disconnected before cutting.
Cut points are spaced at different intervals, depending on the white LED tape product you have chosen:
5W cut points: Every 50mm
10W cut points: Every 25mm
12W cut points: Every 100mm
20W cut points: Every 50mm
24W cut points: Every 50mm
(N.B. If you are using waterproof LED strips, please be aware that cutting them will damage the strip’s heatshrink protection. You will need to reseal the end of the tape with a glue-gun after cutting. Or why not ask us to pre-cut your waterproof white LED tapes to the length you need when you order – and we’ll handle all the heatshrinking and glued ends for you!)
What is the difference between 3528 and 5050 SMDs?
If you’ve been reading up on white LED light strips, then you’ve probably come across the terms 3528 and 5050 SMDs quite a lot.
This is because 3528s and 5050s are the two main types of LED SMDs (surface-mounted diodes) used in the manufacture of LED tapes. One type of diode is not better than the other; the right choice depends on the application that you’re using them for.
3528 SMDs get their name because their LEDs are 3.5mm x 2.8mm. In the same way, 5050 SMDs are 5mm x 5mm in size.
3528 SMDs are less bright and pull less power than 5050 SMDs. (A 5050 SMD is approximately 3x brighter and draws 3x more power than a 3528 SMDs.)
InStyle’s advisors typically recommend our 3528 LED tapes for feature lighting applications, such as covings and plinths. Choose our LED tapes with 5050 SMDs for applications where more light is required (like under-cabinet lighting or ‘working lights’).
See our blog on comparing the two types of SMDs here.
Do you offer LED tape extrusions?
Yes – InStyle LED offer LED tape extrusions (LED profiles) to mount your white LED lights in.
We have a range of LED extrusions that are manufactured to hold any of our LED tapes. They include
corner extrusions
diffused extrusions that smooth the appearance of our white LED light strips
optic extrusions, that will ‘throw’ your LEDs’ light further.
All of our extrusions are available in 1-metre and 2-metre lengths. You can cut them more precisely to the length you require by simply using a hack saw.
How do I fit my white LED strips? Where should I position my white LED strips?
All of our white LED strip lights come with 3M self-adhesive backing already attached. All you need to do is clean the surface to which the LED tape will be fixed, then peel and stick the strip into place.
(When pushing down on your 12-volt / 24-volt white LED light strips, be sure to press on the PCB rather than the resistors or LEDs.)
For more information on mounting and installing our tape please see our detailed blog here. Or see our support article that explains how to find the best position for your LED strips on tricky projects like drop ceilings, kitchen plinths, under cabinets, etc.
How much brightness do I need?
There’s a choice of white LED tape wattages available, each giving a different level of light output to suit your needs. We describe our LED strips by the wattage they draw per metre. So when choosing white LED strips, you should compare them by wattage and lumen output per metre, rather than simply counting the number of LEDs on the strip.
There are five wattages to choose from:
5-watt white LED tape
10-watt white LED tape
12-watt white LED tape
20-watt LED tape
24-watt LED tape
Our 5-watt 12 volt LED lights are our best seller – just because they are our lowest wattage doesn’t mean they’re not powerful; these white strips are very bright compared to other LED lighting. 5-watt 12V LED light strips are ideal for feature lighting – they’re great for highlighting covings, back bars, front desks etc. Our 10w strips are also ideal for feature lights, especially in areas where there is a lot of ambient light (daylight). The 10w is perfect to highlight areas, halos, signage etc.
The 15w and 20w per metre white LED tapes are ideal ‘working lights’. They’re also perfect for areas with a lot of ambient light (daylight), and can be used as under kitchen cabinets etc. The 15w and 20w tapes – along with our very bright 24w tapes – are also ideal to light up areas such as front bars, back bars or front desks and reception areas. (Typically, we don’t recommend 24w LEDs for domestic applications – their high brightness will overwhelm all but the very larget homes!)
We also offer an optic extrusion for our LED light strips that ‘throws the light further’; combined with a 24 volt LED strip power supply (used by 12w, 20w or 24w strips), this makes an ideal low-cost wall washer.
Do you have project photos?
Yes we do!

What LED tape should I use to replace my traditional incandescent/halogen bulbs?
The infographic below compares the lumens output by a single traditional bulb to the output of one metre of LED strip lighting. Incandescent and halogen lamps have no optic lens to narrow their beam, so they produce a wide spread of light. Because LED strip lights also produce a wide beam (approx. 120 degrees), this is a good rule-of-thumb comparison.

Please note that we offer LED light strips and LED drivers in either 12 volt or 24 volt LED lights. Wiring up an LED strip power supply with the wrong voltage will damage your LED tape. So please check that the voltage from your LED power supply is the same as your LED tape’s input voltage before you connect them up.
